The standings for the overall 2023 Wellington Enduro Series have been updated following the Waimapihi Enduro, and can be found on the club's WebScorer page.

Results are close across the board, and with 3 rounds left to earn more points, there's plenty of opportunities to snatch that win.

The Waimapihi Enduro is happening on the 25th of March, and we're looking for a few good souls to help with marshaling on the day. You'll get a great packed lunch, post-race refreshments, all the hi-vis vest that you can handle,

If you're able to help, please email us at president@wmtbc.org.nz , and we'll get some details out to you.

Alex Chronis (or Wombat, as he was better known) was a Wellington mountain biker, long-time bike industry stalwart, and fantastically talented rider. As a junior, he held both the junior DH and XC national champion titles. And he was passionate about helping people - there's a story of him taking a sales rep from a competing bike distributor on his rounds to bike shops when the sales rep's car was broken down

Alex passed away in his sleep last year, and we've been working with a community of his workmates and friends to establish a lasting memorial of his life.

We're proud to announce the Alex Chronis Memorial Prize, which will be awarded to an outstanding junior racer at the Waimapihi Enduro each year. The prize will be available to all Under-19 and younger riders in the hard course, and will have a Giro Insurgent helmet (valued at $699) as a prize. We're really thankful to Giro for their support in this award.

    Course Announced for Waimapihi Enduro

We're pleased to announce the course for the Waimapihi Enduro, which is held in Aro Valley on the 25th of March. This year we'll be keeping things small(er), but still perfectly formed.

The hard (longer) course will include:

    1. Barking Emu into just enough of Carparts Extension to be fun
    2. Carparts
    3. Ikigai and Serendipity
    4. The Rollercoaster
    5. One final addition to be announced on the day

The intermediate (short) course will include:

    1. Barking Emu into just enough of Carparts Extension to be fun
    2. Carparts
    3. Ikigai and Serendipity

The team from Brooklyn Trail Builders have been busy getting the trails into fine fettle, and a team of supergroms led by Harvey and Tom have been giving Rollercoaster a pro-level tune up, so the next week is the perfect time to get out there and find those fast lines on each of the stages.

You can enter the Waimapihi Enduro here. Wellington MTB Club, Trails Wellington, Revolve and Manawatu MTB Club members have a discounted entry of $35. We hope to see you there!

On the 27th of March Trails Wellington will be sharing its vision for trails across Wellington. They'll have some refreshments, including a BBQ, and the Welly MTB Club will be running a ride around some of the best trails that the Matairangi Trail Builders have been working on all over Mt Victoria.

The ride will start at the playground at the top of Pirie Street at 3:30pm, and the Vision Launch event will happen at the Victoria Bowling Club (also at the top of Pirie Street) from 5pm.

You can register for the launch here (it'll help Trails Wellington know how many beers and sausages to get)

The Waimapihi Enduro is back for 2023, supported by our friends at MyRide and Garage Project.

This year we'll be keeping it local, with all of the race stages on the Waimapihi side of the hill, including a couple of trails that we've not raced before, some classics, and a carefully selected length of Carparts extension.

As with all our events, proceeds from the event will be donated to Brooklyn Trail Builders to support trail building at the top of the hill.

Entries are available now at the Welly MTB Club website, and keep an eye out on the event Facebook page for more information.

Mike Evans has been doing a bunch of good work over the past few months building a team to keep the Karitane Jumps (above the zoo in Newtown) in tip-top shape.

The set is looking fantastic, giving a great place to gain some skills and get more comfortable in the air.

There are regular digs most weekends, so keep an eye out on the Karitane Dirt Digs Facebook group for more detail. And if you haven't checked out the zone, head over for a wee spin. You can access the jumps off the top of Truby King Park (at the top of Manchester Terrace in Newtown), or by riding up the 4WD track at the top of the path at the southern end of Coromandel Street.

A bit of overnight rain made the trails at Tunnel Gully a wee bit spicy, but it was always the entertaining side of slippery (well, mostly), and the sunny warm day was appreciated

As always, the crew from NtrailZ put on a great show, with plenty of spot prizes from supporters Angry Bear and the Cycle Centre. Also, massive thanks to the Greater Wellington Regional Council (the Tunnel Gully MTB Trails are on council land) and all the volunteers who turned out on the day.

Results are posted up now, with the hard course (which qualify for Wellington Enduro Series Points) available here, and the intermediate course available here

The damp weather this morning didn't put off the 55 participants at the Revolve Super V this morning, with 3 hours of shuttled practice down Car Parts, Ikigai and Serendipity, plus a jump jam on the newly upgraded Roller Coaster followed by a timed run down the trails.

Khulan Tumen was fastest on the day, followed by Iley Nunns and Kiera Vlaar (showing some of the experience they've had after a summer of DH racing is paying off).

Results can be found at the Welly MTB Club's Webscorer page.

Over the past few months, a dedicated group of locals has been doing some serious updates to the RollerCoaster track (running from the top of Ikigai down to the northern end of Highbury Fling.
We continue to be impressed with the eye for detail and quality of finishing the young BTBers (led by Harvey and Tom) are producing. There’s heaps more to do but the focus is on a nice finish before moving to the next bit.

Have a look at the changes before you commit, and check out some of the goodness below!
